Sugar consumption inside Ukraine has decreased by almost a fifth. Yana Kavushevska, chairwoman of the Ukrsakhar Association, told [[/link_direct]] in an interview with the YouTube channel Kommersant Ukrainski , according to Dengi.ua .

According to her, if earlier Ukrainians consumed 1.2 million tons of sugar per year, after 2022 this figure fell to 900 thousand tons.

In addition, the head of the association said that such a decline is due to the mass emigration of citizens and a decrease in purchasing power caused by the war.

"Purchasing power has decreased, and this directly affected the domestic market," - emphasized Yana Kavushevskaya.

It is also noted that the current annual quota for sugar exports from Ukraine to the European Union is 20.7 thousand tons. At the same time, the EU has promised to increase this figure almost five times.
