The Battle for the Harvest: Ukrainian Farmers Continue to Harvest Oilseeds at a Rapid Pace

As of September 29, Ukrainian farms had harvested 34.3 million metric tons of grain and legume crops from an area of more than 7.1 million hectares, or 61% of the projected total. The average yield stands at 48.2 centners per hectare. This was reported by Dengi.ua, citing data from theMinistry of Agriculture.

It is noted that, broken down by major crops, the following have been harvested:

• wheat - the harvest is complete, with 26 million metric tons harvested from an area of 5.11 million hectares at an average yield of 50.8 centners per hectare;
• barley - the harvest is complete; 6.6 million metric tons were harvested from an area of 1.48 million hectares, with a yield of 44.6 centners per hectare;
• peas - the harvest is complete, with 812,300 metric tons harvested from an area of 301,900 hectares at a yield of 26.9 centners per hectare;
• corn - 789 thousand metric tons from an area of 153.3 thousand hectares, with a yield of 51.5 centners per hectare;
• millet - 75,4 thousand metric tons from an area of 32,8 thousand hectares, with a yield of 23 ts/ha;
• buckwheat - 44,7 thousand metric tons from an area of 34,7 thousand hectares, with a yield of 13 centners per hectare.

It is reported that the largest volumes of grain and legume crops were harvested by agricultural enterprises in the following regions:

• Odesa Region - 5.6 million metric tons, including 3.8 million metric tons of wheat, 1.48 million metric tons of barley, and 294,000 metric tons of peas;
• Dnipropetrovsk Region - 2.76 million metric tons, including 2.04 million metric tons of wheat, 574,600 metric tons of barley, and 91,800 metric tons of corn;
• Mykolaiv Region - 2.65 million metric tons, including 1.87 million metric tons of wheat, 648,700 metric tons of barley, and 111,800 metric tons of peas.

The highest yields for grain and legume crops were recorded in Khmelnytskyi region (70.2 centners per hectare), Sumy region (60.9 centners per hectare), and Vinnytsia region (59.2 centners per hectare).

It is also reported that farmers are actively continuing the harvest and have already gathered more than 8.4 million metric tons of oilseeds, specifically:

• rapeseed - the harvest is complete, with 3.87 million metric tons harvested from 1.33 million hectares at a yield of 29.1 ts/ha;
• sunflower seeds - 3.36 million metric tons from an area of 1.66 million hectares, with a yield of 20.3 centners per hectare;
• soybeans - 1.22 million metric tons from an area of 571,400 hectares, with a yield of 21.3 centners per hectare.

In addition, the sugar beet harvest is continuing, with 296,500 metric tons harvested from an area of 5,800 hectares at an average yield of 511.2 centners per hectare.
