In Ukraine, 19,758 new companies were registered in the first half of 2026 - an 8% increase compared to the same period last year and the highest figure in the last three years. During the same period, 6,563 companies ceased operations; however, the net increase in businesses was 13,195. This was reported by Dengi.ua , citing OpenDataBot.
Registrations Have Increased, but So Have Closures
Compared to the first half of 2025, the number of new companies rose from 18,277 to 19,758. At the same time, the number of business closures also increased - by 28% compared to last year.
OpenDataBot clarifies that the statistics include both companies with “Terminated” status and those currently in the process of liquidation. Some of these may subsequently regain their status as active legal entities.
Which Sectors Are Growing the Fastest
The largest increase in new companies was recorded in the following sectors:
- wholesale trade — +2,304 companies;
- IT sector — +1,254;
- real estate transactions — +1,104;
- nonprofit organizations — +859;
- building and grounds maintenance — +824.
At the same time, a decline in the number of businesses was observed in public administration and defense (-289), education (-282), veterinary activities (-20), water supply (-14), and the creative arts and entertainment sector (-11).
Kyiv Leads in Business Growth
The capital saw the largest increase in registered companies - a gain of 5,338 enterprises.
Next are:
- Lviv region — +1,220 companies;
- Dnipropetrovsk region — +1,177.
Overall, positive trends were observed in 23 regions of Ukraine, while a decline in the number of companies was recorded in four regions. The largest declines occurred in the frontline Donetsk (-157) and Luhansk (-73) regions.
Why Companies Cease Operations
More than half of the cases of business cessation are related to liquidation - 3,479 companies. Another 1,410 enterprises are in the process of reorganization, 651 companies are undergoing bankruptcy proceedings, and 574 are ceasing operations by court order without bankruptcy proceedings.
According to OpenDataBot, among companies in the process of ceasing operations (excluding reorganizations), “PromoFly” is the largest by revenue for 2025. According to its financial statements, the company’s revenue amounted to 3 billion UAH, even though it is currently undergoing bankruptcy proceedings. All companies in the top ten by this metric are currently in the process of ceasing operations.
Earlier, Dengi.ua reported that Ukrainian businesses had revised their business activity expectations upward.
