JSC UkrGasVydobuvannya, part of the Naftogaz Group, intends to implement the Ecofield Solotvyno geothermal power plant pilot project in Solotvyno, Zakarpattia Oblast. Investments in the project are estimated at approximately USD 30.7 million. The project was presented to potential investors during the Carpathian 8 Summit. The plant’s designed electrical capacity is expected to be 5 MW, and its thermal capacity - 20 MW. According to preliminary estimates, the facility will be able to generate approximately 32.85 GWh of electricity annually.
The Ecofield Solotvyno concept involves the cascaded use of geothermal resources. In the first phase, heat from the groundwater will be used to generate electricity. After that, the remaining thermal energy is planned to be used to meet the needs of industrial and agricultural enterprises.
The project is currently in the preliminary feasibility study phase. Construction and commissioning of the plant are expected to take approximately three years.
For UkrGasVydobuvannya, Ecofield Solotvyno will be the first project involving electricity generation using geothermal resources. Solotvyno is being treated as a pilot site: if the project is successfully implemented, the experience gained can be applied to the launch of similar projects in other areas of the Carpathian region.
To study the geothermal potential of the Solotvyno Basin, UkrGasVydobuvannya enlisted the American company Teverra in 2026.
