The WUI has reached its highest level since 1990. The current global instability far exceeds the panic experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic, the global financial crisis, and even the September 11 terrorist attacks. This was reported by Dengi.ua, referencing a statement of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy Danylo Getmantsev.
"The world is undergoing the most difficult tests due to military conflicts, economic crises, and shifting political interests among world leaders. This may last for more than a year, as a new architecture of world security must be created," the MP said.
Dynamics of the WUI in 2025–2026
According to the announced data, the index indicators for the last four quarters are as follows:
- Q2 2025 - 80,038 points;
- Q3 2025 - 106,862 points (historical peak);
- Q4 2025 - 94,947 points;
- Q1 2026 - 81,872 points.
Throughout the year, the index has held steady between 80,000 and 106,000 points—an absolutely unprecedented level in the entire history of observations since 1990.
The Current Situation vs. Past Crises
To provide a clear understanding of the current scale, Getmantsev contrasted the WUI indicators during previous global shocks:
- COVID-19 pandemic (2019-2020) - maximum 55,685 points;
- Iraq War (2003) - 34,455 points;
- The start of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine (2022) - 29,344 points;
- September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks - 25,156 points;
- World Financial Crisis (2008-2009) - 21,794 points.
As the statistics demonstrate, none of the previous global crises reached even half of the current uncertainty levels.
Why the World is "Stormy" and What It Means for Ukraine
The record jump in the WUI is driven by the simultaneous convergence of several severe factors: escalating geopolitical tensions, new military conflicts, and intensifying trade wars. Traditionally, such a prolonged period of uncertainty leads to capital flight, a slowdown in global economic growth, and heightened volatility in financial markets.
According to Danylo Getmantsev, in the face of such a global storm, the key priority for Ukraine is to achieve a just peace as early as 2026.
"The state must take care of the interests of our citizens. Ukrainians have the right to a decent life, to security for themselves and their children, and to be confident in the future for decades to come," the MP summarized.
