Sweden will allocate $108 million to support the PURL initiative, which allows Ukraine’s partners to purchase weapons from the U.S. for the Ukrainian military. The funding is part of a previously announced military aid package for Kyiv. This was reported by the Swedish Ministry of Defense, according to Dengi.ua .
The Swedish Defense Ministry noted that the PURL mechanism provides Ukraine with rapid access to U.S. weapons that are most in demand at this stage of the war.
Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson emphasized that thanks to this program, Ukraine will be able to quickly receive modern air defense systems as well as the necessary ammunition.
“This is crucial for Ukraine to be able to defend itself against further attacks by Russia. Sweden’s support is long-term, comprehensive, and based on Ukraine’s needs,” Jonson said.
The new package marks Sweden’s fourth contribution under the PURL initiative. With this latest decision, the total amount of Swedish funding under this program has reached $543 million.
The country’s authorities emphasize that they will continue to provide support to Ukraine, focusing on its current defense needs and the situation on the battlefield.
