Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko held a meeting with Masashi Nakagome, Japan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine, during which the parties discussed further budgetary support for Ukraine. This was reported by Dengi.ua, citing the ministry’s press service.
"Since February 24, 2022, budgetary support from Japan has exceeded $9.8 billion. Japan remains one of Ukraine’s largest bilateral donors. We count on the continuation of this close cooperation, as the war continues and the state budget’s needs remain significant,” emphasized Sergii Marchenko.
It is noted that in 2026, Japan has already provided Ukraine with $850 million through World Bank projects. The parties discussed the possibility of further support for such operations in 2026–2027. The Ukrainian side looks forward to continuing cooperation with Japan, particularly through World Bank mechanisms.
The parties paid special attention to support for Ukraine under the Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration (ERA) Loans mechanism - funds secured by revenues from frozen Russian assets. The total amount of aid from Japan under the ERA mechanism is 471.9 billion Japanese yen (more than $3 billion). Approximately $1.8 billion has already been transferred to Ukraine’s state budget. The final tranche of about $1.3 billion is expected to be disbursed in 2027.
