Ukraine has received another €1.2 billion tranche from the European Union as part of the Ukraine Support Loan program. The funds will be directed primarily toward meeting the country’s most urgent defense needs, according to Dengi.ua, citing a statement by Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi.

Where the €1.2 Billion Will Be Allocated

According to Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi, the received funds will allow Ukraine to meet its most pressing defense needs.

The European Commission clarified that European funding covers products manufactured by Ukrainian companies. Specifically, this includes:

  • drones;
  • drone interception systems;
  • ammunition for drones;
  • missiles.

Thus, the new tranche is intended not only to provide the Ukrainian military with the necessary equipment but also to support domestic defense manufacturing.

Ukraine Has Already Received Nearly €13 Billion

With this new funding, the total amount Ukraine has received for defense needs under the Ukraine Support Loan program has approached €13 billion.

At the same time, Kyiv continues to work with its European partners to secure the remaining portion of the allocated funding.

“We continue to cooperate with our European partners to ensure the timely and full disbursement of the remaining funds,” wrote Serhii Koretskyi.

The prime minister also thanked EU leadership and EU member states for their support of Ukraine and their assistance in strengthening its defense capabilities.

The EU Explained the Need for Assistance

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the new tranche is linked to Russia’s ongoing attacks against Ukraine.

“Russia continues to carry out its deliberate strategy of terror, attempting to make everyday life unbearable for Ukrainians. Today’s allocation of funds will help strengthen Ukraine’s defense industry, as well as Ukraine’s ability to defend itself, its citizens, and its infrastructure,” she said.

Thus, the new package of European aid is aimed both at meeting Ukraine’s current defense needs and at strengthening the capabilities of its domestic defense industry.
