Ukraine plans to launch a nationwide GPS-monitoring system to control interregional and international bus flights. The new digital platform will allow the government to track the movement of transport in real time and bring the transportation market out of the shadows.
This was announced by the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories, Dengi.ua.
According to Deputy Minister Serhiy Derkach, today bus tracking works in a fragmented manner. Individual cities and carriers use their own systems, but due to the lack of unified standards, the state does not see the real picture on the market.
Why is GPS-monitoring of public transport needed in 2026
The introduction of a centralized system is designed to solve several strategic tasks at once, which directly affect the quality and safety of travel.
The main goals of the initiative are:
- Control of speed limits and compliance with traffic rules by drivers.
- Elimination of deviations from routes and unauthorized stops.
- Instant response of dispatchers to emergency incidents on the road.
- Data collection to improve schedules and service quality.
How the transportation control system will work in Ukraine
At the first stage, the initiative will be implemented in the format of a pilot project. It will cover only certain routes, after which the system is planned to be scaled to the entire territory of the country.
The draft decree of the Cabinet of Ministers clearly regulates:
- technical requirements for GPS equipment in buses;
- the procedure for connecting vehicles to a unified digital base;
- unified rules of dispatch control over the fulfillment of flights;
- algorithms of collection and protection of data on the movement of transport.
