Casualties among Russian occupation forces reached 46,230 in September 2026, setting a record high for any single month since the beginning of the year.

This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as reported by Dengi.ua.

How Enemy Losses Have Increased Throughout 2026

The September figure exceeded the previous highs recorded during the summer campaign. Compared to January, when the occupiers’ losses stood at 31,710 personnel, the scale of enemy casualties increased by 14,520 soldiers, or 45.8%.

According to the military command, the monthly trend in Russian forces’ casualties in 2026 is as follows:

  • January — 31,710 occupiers;
  • February — 26,090 occupiers;
  • March — 31,960 occupiers;
  • April — 32,980 occupiers;
  • May — 33,760 occupiers;
  • June — 39,290 occupiers;
  • July — 42,860 occupiers;
  • August — 42,020 occupiers;
  • September — 46,230 occupiers.

The rapid increase in the scale of neutralization of enemy forces continued throughout the summer, peaking in early fall.

Why Assaults Are Resulting in Record-Breaking Losses for Occupiers

The increase in enemy casualties is due to the high accuracy of Ukrainian units’ fire along the entire front line and the Russian command’s failed attempts to achieve operational-tactical objectives through continuous infantry assaults.

Key factors behind the rise in Russian military casualties:

  • systematic firepower: the effective use of artillery, strike UAVs, and precision-guided weapons against concentrations of personnel;
  • failure of offensive plans: the inability of the Russian military leadership to break through defenses without incurring disproportionate losses;
  • intensified infantry attacks: the occupiers’ attempts to rely solely on sheer numbers to overwhelm the fortified lines of Ukrainian troops;
  • resilience of the defense: coordinated actions by units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces along key lines of contact.

The General Staff emphasized that the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to methodically wear down the enemy’s offensive capabilities, depleting the aggressor’s strategic reserves.
