According to official UN figures, 17,605 Ukrainian civilians have already fallen victim to Russia’s full-scale aggression, including 850 children. In addition, another 55,846 civilians have been injured. This was reported by Dengi.ua, citing an infographic from “Slovo i Dilo.”

Analysts provide data on casualties among Ukrainian civilians during the years of full-scale war.

  • 2022

In the first year of the major war (from February 24 to December 31, 2022), at least 8,400 civilians were killed in Ukraine, according to UN estimates.

The highest casualty figures occurred from late winter to early summer: February—378 killed and 469 wounded; March—4,313 killed and 3,019 wounded; April—842 killed and 1,905 wounded; May—589 killed and 1,152 wounded.

From July through October 2022, according to verified UN data, 300–400 people fell victim to Russian aggression each month. By the end of the year, the death toll had decreased slightly: in November, there were 189 deaths and 542 injuries; in December, there were 208 deaths and 617 injuries.

  • 2023–2025

In 2023, the UN recorded 1,975 civilian casualties in Ukraine. The highest numbers were in January (205 fatalities and 539 injured), as well as in March (183 fatalities and 590 injured), April (189 fatalities and 493 injured), June (186 fatalities and 693 injured), and October (181 fatalities and 433 injured). The fewest fatalities and injuries occurred in November.

Throughout 2024, Russian occupiers claimed the lives of 2,088 Ukrainians in the rear. The UN monitoring mission verified the highest number of fatalities and injuries in July (248 and 1,118), September (215 and 1,268), and October (198 fatalities and 940 injured). The fewest fatalities occurred in December and March, while the fewest injuries were recorded in February, March, and December.

Last year, according to the UN, 2,549 civilians in Ukraine fell victim to the Russian invasion. The number of fatalities and injuries in July reached a monthly high for the previous three years—312 fatalities and 1,482 injuries. Civilian casualties were also high in June, August, and September—249, 260, and 249 victims, respectively. The fewest people died in January and February 2025—149 and 131, respectively.

  • 2026

From January through September of this year, according to UN reports, Russians have killed at least 2,570 Ukrainian civilians. This figure for the first nine months of the year is already higher than the totals for the entire years of 2023, 2024, and 2025 combined. In March and April, the number of civilian fatalities exceeded 200; in May and June, it approached 300; and the number of people injured during the first month of summer exceeded 2,000. In July, Ukraine recorded the highest number of civilian deaths and injuries since 2022—448 killed and 2,695 injured. The figures remained high in the following months: August—389 killed and 2,366 injured; September—328 killed and 2,105 injured.

UN reports note that from 2022 to 2026, civilians in Ukraine were most often killed or injured by weapons with explosive effects and a wide blast radius, as well as by mines and explosive devices.

The organization also adds that in some cases, verifying information takes time, and if additional information is received, conclusions regarding civilian casualties may be revised and the figures may change.

Furthermore, based on verified UN data, Russia’s war against Ukraine—which began with the annexation of Crimea and parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in 2014—has claimed the lives of more than 21,000 Ukrainian civilians.
