In Ukraine, the price of a new iPhone 17 Pro Max with 256 GB of storage starts at approximately 56,399 UAH in August at specialized online stores. At major retail chains that officially sell Apple products - specifically Foxtrot, Allo, and Citrus - the price of the device reaches 65,999 UAH. However, purchasing a used or refurbished smartphone will be cheaper. This is reported by Dengi.ua, citing an infographic from Slovo i Dilo.
According to data from the State Statistics Service, the average official salary in Ukraine in June was 32,783 UAH. If we compare this figure with the cost of a smartphone, it turns out that the average Ukrainian would need to work about 354.3 hours to afford an iPhone 17 Pro Max 256 GB.
The situation in other countries is noticeably different. In Moldova, it would take roughly the same amount of work to buy the same smartphone: with an average salary of 15,987 lei, the device costs 30,399 lei.
In Bulgaria, the average salary is 1,421 euros, and the price of the iPhone 17 Pro Max is 1,448.99 euros. Therefore, it would take 179.5 hours of work to buy the smartphone. In Latvia, this figure is significantly lower - 133.5 hours. The average salary there is 1,831 euros, and the smartphone costs 1,389 euros.
Residents of Hungary and Romania would need to spend roughly the same amount of time working to purchase an iPhone - 126.7 and 129.9 hours, respectively. In Hungary, the average salary is 764,100 forints, while the cost of a smartphone is 549,990 forints. In Romania, these figures are 9,483 lei and 6,999.99 lei, respectively.
In Estonia, an iPhone 17 Pro Max costing 1,429 euros would require 117.8 hours of work to afford, given an average salary of 2,135 euros. In Poland, the smartphone sells for 5,799 zlotys, and the average salary is 9,401.58 zlotys. As a result, the purchase would require 108.6 hours of work. In the Czech Republic, the figure is 105 hours: the device costs 29,990 korunas.
In Cyprus, it would take 98.7 hours of work to buy a smartphone costing 1,459 euros. The average salary in the country is 2,601 euros. In Lithuania and Slovenia, the figures are similar - 86.3 and 84.6 hours, respectively. In the former, an iPhone costs 1,239 euros with an average salary of 2,526.8 euros, while in the latter, it costs 1,289 euros with a salary of 2,682.36 euros.
According to the data provided, residents of Norway and Finland would need the least amount of time to earn enough to buy an iPhone 17 Pro Max 256 GB. In Finland, a smartphone costing 1,309 euros can be purchased after 54 hours of work, with an average salary of 4,269 euros. In Norway, the figure is even lower - 49.2 hours. There, the average salary is 58,970 Norwegian kroner, and the device costs 16,490 kroner.
