Ukrainian refugees who arrived in Germany after April 1, 2025, will lose the right to Bürgergeld and will receive smaller payments of 122 euros. This is reported by Dengi.ua with reference to information Bild.

According to government sources of the publication, the German parties CDU/CSU and SPD, which are members of the coalition, agreed on November 12 on the reform of social assistance to Ukrainian refugees.

It is reported that German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt and Labor Minister Berbel Bas reached an agreement that Ukrainians will move to the system of payments under the law on benefits for asylum seekers (Asylbewerberleistungsgesetz).

Thus, the Bürgergeld payment provides 563 euros per month in addition to covering housing and heating costs. At the same time, the law on asylum seekers provides 196 euros for personal needs and 245 euros for necessary expenses (food, clothing) - a total of 441 euros per month.

It is also noted that the reason for the changes was the low employment of Ukrainians in Germany. It is expected that the reduction of payments will motivate more refugees to look for work.
