As of September 16, Ukrainian farmers had planted 171,600 hectares of winter grain crops, accounting for 3.3% of the projected area. This was reported by Dengi.ua, citing information provided by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.
Specifically, 145,300 hectares - or 3.2% of the projected total - have been planted with winter wheat and triticale.Winter barley has been sown on 13,000 hectares, which is 2.2% of the plan. The area planted with winter rye reached 13,300 hectares, or 17.3% of the projected area.
“Planting winter crops is always a critical stage, as it lays the foundation for the future harvest. This fall, farmers face significant challenges: alongside military risks and financial constraints, several regions are experiencing a severe shortage of soil moisture due to dry weather. Nevertheless, agricultural producers are adapting their farming practices to current weather conditions and proceeding with the campaign to ensure optimal planting windows,” emphasized Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotskyi.
The largest areas planted with winter grains have been recorded in the Poltava region, where 46,100 hectares have already been sown. Of this, 43,700 hectares are planted with wheat and triticale, and another 2,400 hectares with rye.
In the Chernihiv region, the planted area reached 18,600 hectares. Winter wheat and triticale account for 13,600 hectares, rye for 4,500 hectares, and barley for 500 hectares. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, farmers have planted 14,400 hectares, including 14,300 hectares of wheat and triticale and 100 hectares of rye.
At the same time, the planting of winter rapeseed is ongoing. As of September 16, 837,100 hectares had already been planted with this crop, or 75.7% of the projected area. Among the leading regions are Kirovohrad Oblast, with 100,500 hectares planted; Odesa Oblast, with 98,200 hectares; and Vinnytsia Oblast, with 75,700 hectares.
