21.5 thousand tons: how much and what the fishing industry caught

The bulk of the production came from Antarctica, where 18,904 tons of Antarctic krill have been caught since the beginning of the year.

In the period from January to May 2025, enterprises of the fishing industry of Ukraine caught a total of 21,503 tons of fish and other aquatic bioresources. This is reported by Dengi.ua with reference to data of the State Fisheries Agency.

At the same time, the main part of production was in the area of the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR), where Ukrainian state-flagged vessels have caught 18,904 tons of Antarctic krill since the beginning of the year.

In the water bodies of Ukraine industrial fishermen caught 1,350 tons of aquatic bioresources during this period. In particular, in the Dnieper reservoirs the catch amounted to 912 tons, in the lower reaches of the Dniester with lakes and the Turunchuk arm, as well as in the Dniester estuary - 224 tons, in the Danube - 121 tons, in the Dnieper-Bug estuary system - 71 tons, in the Tiligul estuary - 12 tons, in the Berezansky estuary - 4 tons, and in other water bodies - 6 tons.

The main prey species were:

  • silver carp (583 tons),
  • bream (294 tons),
  • black Sea herring (131 tons),
  • roach (taranja) - 83 tons
  • flatfish - 66 tons.

At the same time, fishing in the waters of the Black and Azov Seas is still blocked due to the military aggression of the Russian Federation. In addition, according to preliminary data, 650 tons of commercial aquaculture products were caught in the first five months of the year.

Also, in a number of regions where territorial bodies of the State Agency for Fishery Agency operate, special commercial fisheries (SCF), combining commercial fishing with aquaculture. Since the beginning of the year, 599 tons of aquatic bioresources have been harvested in the regime of STRF.
