During a meeting between representatives of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food and the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, Ukraine requested assistance to help Ukrainian farmers preserve the new grain harvest for future export.This was reported by Dengi.ua, citing the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.
It is noted that following the talks, the parties agreed on steps to provide urgent assistance for preserving the harvest and developing long-term joint agricultural projects.
The Ukrainian side informed its American partners about the consequences of more than 180 Russian strikes on Odesa’s port infrastructure in 2026. As a result of the attacks, operations have been halted at three deep-water ports through which more than 90% of Ukraine’s agricultural exports were shipped.
“With the projected gross harvest at 81.37 million metric tons, the grain storage capacity shortfall could reach 11 million metric tons by late fall. Due to Russian attacks on ports and maritime export infrastructure, Ukraine risks facing a liquidity crisis and additional strain on border infrastructure and EU agricultural markets, and Ukraine’s ability to supply food to traditional global markets will be significantly reduced,” the ministry emphasized.
To minimize this threat, the Ukrainian side has approached its American partners with a request for support in purchasing equipment for temporary grain storage directly on Ukrainian farms.
