More Than Half of the Harvest Is Behind Us: How Much Grain Have Farmers Harvested So Far?

As of August 18, Ukrainian farms had already harvested 6,589,340 hectares, or 56% of the projected area planted with grain and leguminous crops, which is 403,000 hectares more than on this date a year ago. In total, 30,844,070 metric tons of grain from the new harvest have already been harvested, with an average yield of 46.8 centners per hectare. This was reported by Dengi.ua, citing data provided by the Ministry of Agriculture.

It is noted that, in particular, the following have been harvested:

  • wheat—4,855.25 thousand hectares have been threshed, yielding 23,822.36 thousand metric tons with an average yield of 49.1 centners per hectare;
  • barley—1,437.17 thousand hectares threshed, 6,239.99 thousand metric tons harvested at a yield of 43.4 centners per hectare;
  • peas—295.66 thousand hectares, with 779.02 thousand metric tons harvested at a yield of 26.3 centners per hectare;
  • millet—1.2 thousand hectares, with 2.7 thousand metric tons harvested at a yield of 22.5 centners per hectare.

It is reported that farmers in the Odesa, Kirovohrad, and Mykolaiv regions have harvested the largest amounts of early grains and legumes, specifically:

  • Odesa region - 4,819.70 thousand metric tons from an area of 1,188.8 thousand hectares (wheat - 3,223.30 thousand metric tons, barley - 1,311.50 thousand metric tons, peas - 284.90 thousand metric tons);
  • Kirovohrad region - 2,418.30 thousand metric tons from an area of 555.70 thousand hectares (wheat - 1,923.80 thousand metric tons, barley - 412.50 thousand metric tons, peas - 82.0 thousand metric tons);
  • Mykolaiv region - 2,326.10 thousand metric tons from an area of 653.80 thousand hectares (wheat - 1,631.80 thousand metric tons, barley - 587.50 thousand metric tons, peas - 106.80 thousand metric tons).

In addition, according to the ministry, high grain yields are currently being recorded in the Khmelnytskyi (69.9 centners per hectare), Sumy (59.8 centners per hectare), and Vinnytsia (59.5 centners per hectare) regions.

It is also noted that farmers continue to harvest rapeseed (spring and winter varieties). To date, 1,318.64 thousand hectares have been threshed, and 3,759.94 thousand metric tons of seeds have been harvested, with an average yield of 28.5 centners per hectare.
