Ukraine is set to receive a new precision-guided weapon of its own production: the Equalizer guided aerial bomb, marking the nation's first domestic development of this type. Equipped with a 250-kilogram warhead, the munition is designed to strike high-value targets deep behind enemy lines. This was reported by Dengi.ua with reference to an infographic from "Slovo i Dilo".
The new UAB (guided aerial bomb) features an advanced guidance system and modern targeting algorithms. It is fully compatible with Ukraine's existing aircraft and weapon systems, including F-16 and Mirage fighters, though additional certification will be required for seamless integration. Notably, preparing the munition for deployment takes less than half an hour.
According to the developers, the Equalizer costs roughly three times less than the American JDAM-ER, which Ukrainian forces are already utilizing on the front lines. Despite the lower price tag, the Ukrainian bomb is designed to operate effectively around the clock and under any weather conditions.
The day before the announcement, Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov noted that the domestic guided aerial bomb had successfully completed all testing phases and was ready for combat use. The ministry also emphasized that the Equalizer is a fully independent development by Ukrainian engineers, rather than a copy of Western or Soviet systems. The project took 17 months to develop from scratch, with early backing provided by a grant from the Brave1 defense-tech platform.
The Ministry of Defense has already purchased the first experimental batch of the new bombs, and Ukrainian pilots are currently training on various combat scenarios for their deployment.
