In February 2025, Ukraine conducted its first pipeline delivery of biomethane to the European Union, the Ministry of Energy reported.

“The start of biomethane exports marks a significant step toward energy independence and European integration. It supports decarbonization and reduces reliance on fossil fuels. Ukraine is ready to be a reliable supplier of clean energy,” said Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko.

The first shipment totaled 67,000 cubic meters.

Ukrainian producers can export biomethane to the EU via Ukraine’s gas transmission system, connecting production facilities to either transmission or distribution networks. Connection and transport conditions are the same as for natural gas producers.
