Ukraine's largest enterprise for primary processing of industrial hemp has been launched in the industrial park "Ma'Rijany" in Zhytomyr region. The plant will produce fiber for the European textile industry and domestic market. The press service of the Ministry of Economy informed about it .
It is noted that the company "Ma'Rijany Hemp Company" has renewed the old flax plant and built a modern production facility with a capacity of 14,000 tons per year.
According to the company, in the 1990s the processing of bast crops in Ukraine virtually disappeared, along with the production of combed yarn. This made the textile industry dependent on imports and reduced its competitiveness.
In 2023, Ma'Rijany Hemp Company started the reconstruction of the abandoned flax factory, and already in 2025 a modern high-tech production facility appeared in its place.
In 2024 the company planted 890 hectares of industrial hemp, in 2025 - already 1200 hectares. This is the largest area of hemp cultivation in Central and Eastern Europe.
What has already been done:
- production areas - 10,000 square meters, storage areas - 10,800 square meters;
- construction and installation of equipment is fully completed;
- testing of raw materials and production of the first samples for customers has begun.
What the plant will produce:
- long fiber for textiles and technical fabrics (export with the prospect of domestic processing for Ukrainian fashion industry);
- short fiber for paper, nonwovens, insulation;
- bark fiber - raw material for bioplastics, building materials, animal bedding.
