Ukraine's steel output falls: how much was produced in May

The only area of the steel industry showing growth this year remains pig iron production.

According to the results of the first five months of 2025, the only direction in the metallurgical industry of Ukraine, showing growth, remains the production of pig iron - its volume increased by 5.9% compared to the same period of 2024. At the same time, the output of steel by Ukrainian metallurgists decreased by 2.5%, and the production of rolled steel decreased by 2.4%.

This is reported by Dengi.ua with reference to data "Ukrmetallurgprom".

In May of this year there was a decrease in production of key types of metallurgical products compared to April, in particular:

pig iron output amounted to 664.7 thousand tons - by 2.3% less
steel production decreased to 635.8 thousand tons (minus 8.1%),
rolled metal production amounted to 547.0 thousand tons (down 4.2%).

At the same time, if compared to May last year, there is also a decline: production of pig iron decreased by 1.3%, steel - by 13.8%, and rolled steel - by 11.8%.
