From January through September 2026, the value of goods imported into Ukraine exceeded $75.1 billion, while exports totaled nearly $29.6 billion. Thus, the value of imported goods was more than double the value of goods sold abroad. This is reported by Dengi.ua with a reference to the State Customs Service of Ukraine.

From Which Countries Did Ukraine Import the Most?

Over the nine-month period, taxable imports totaled $52.8 billion - about 70% of the total value of imported goods. The tax burden per kilogram of such goods reached $0.62.

China became the largest supplier of goods to Ukraine, with imports reaching nearly $22.6 billion during the reporting period.

The top three supplier countries also included:

  • Poland - more than $7.1 billion;
  • Germany - more than $4.9 billion.

Thus, China significantly outpaced other countries in terms of the volume of goods supplied to the Ukrainian market.

What Goods Does Ukraine Purchase Abroad?

More than 73% of total imports fell into three main categories of goods.

The largest share of spending went toward machinery, equipment, and transportation - nearly $34.4 billion. Fuel and energy products came in second, totaling more than $10.8 billion. Chemical industry products accounted for another $10 billion or more.

These same categories accounted for a significant portion of customs revenue collected by the state budget.

Customs duties on imports of machinery, equipment, and transportation totaled nearly 191.5 billion UAH - about 29% of all customs revenue. For fuel and energy products, the figure exceeded 224.9 billion UAH, or nearly 34%. Chemical products contributed about 83 billion UAH to the budget - approximately 13% of the revenue.

Where Does Ukraine Export Its Products?

In January–September 2026, Poland became the largest buyer of Ukrainian goods, with exports totaling nearly $3.7 billion.

Ukraine supplied more than $2.2 billion worth of goods to Turkey and nearly $2.1 billion worth to Germany.

Food products formed the bulk of Ukrainian exports: nearly $17 billion worth were sold abroad.

In addition, Ukraine exported:

  • metals and metal products - nearly $2.9 billion;
  • machinery, equipment, and transportation vehicles - worth nearly $2.7 billion.

Thus, food remains the largest category of Ukrainian exports, while imports consist largely of machinery, vehicles, energy resources, and chemical products.

How Much Did the Budget Receive from Export Operations?

During the first nine months of 2026, customs clearance of exports subject to export duties generated nearly 1.5 billion UAH for the state budget.

Overall, customs statistics show that during the reporting period, Ukraine purchased more than $45 billion more in goods from abroad than it sold to foreign markets. Meanwhile, Poland, Turkey, and Germany remain the largest destinations for Ukrainian exports.
