The National Bank of Ukraine has recognized the business reputation of Petro Poroshenko as the owner of a substantial stake in the International Investment Bank JSC (IIB JSC) as flawed. This is related to the application of sanctions to the former president, reported the press service of the regulator.
Such a decision of the Committee on supervision and regulation of banks, payment infrastructure oversight of the National Bank adopted at a meeting on April 28, 2025.
According to Article 14 of the Law of Ukraine "On Banks and Banking Activity" the owners of significant participation in the bank must have an impeccable business reputation.
A sign of impeccable business reputation of an individual is, in particular, the application of sanctions by Ukraine to such a person.
Poroshenko owns shares of JSC IIB indirectly through ownership of 100% of shares of PJSC Closed Non-Diversified Corporate Investment Fund Prime Assets Capital, which for its part directly owns 64.98292% of the bank's shares.
The decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine from February 12, 2025 "On the application of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions)" to Poroshenko applied (indefinitely) personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions).
It is noted that the meeting of the Committee was held in a remote format (in Zoom platform), this form of meeting is provided by the norms of the Law of Ukraine "On Administrative Proceedings".
According to the press service, the National Bank informed all interested parties in advance that the meeting would be held in a remote format. However, the people's deputies of Ukraine from the party "European solidarity" Nina Yuzhanina, Mikhail Bondar, Arthur Gerasimov, Rostislav Pavlenko and Petro Poroshenko's lawyer Ilya Novikov arrived at the building of the NBU and demanded to provide them with the opportunity to be physically present at the meeting of the Committee.
"The National Bank considers the actions of the MPs and the persons accompanying them, in particular the live broadcast of their stay at the NBU on the air of "5 channel" and the call of the National police, as an attempt to put pressure on the employees of the NBU and an attempt to disrupt the work of the Committee. The NBU will consider the possibility of filing a statement to law enforcement authorities about the pressure and obstruction of activities on the part of these people's deputies and persons who accompanied them", - stated in the message.
