One in five unprofitable: Ukrainian banks earned UAH 100 billion in six months

In the first half of 2025, Ukrainian banks earned UAH 100.06 billion before taxes. This is almost the same result as last year. Tax expenses amounted to UAH 21.99 billion or 22% of profits. At the same time, every fifth bank in the country remains unprofitable. This is reported by Dengi.ua with reference to data "Opendatabot" .

It is noted that after payment of taxes the banks have 78.07 billion hryvnias left. Not all financial institutions were in the pluses according to the results of the first half of the year: 13 banks reported losses.

According to analysts, more than a third of profitable banks have improved their performance. The leader in dynamics is Metabank, which grew 118 times. Stable growth in PrivatBank: +14%.

The top 10 largest banks remained unchanged. Together they generated UAH 68.05 billion, which is 87% of the profit of the entire sector.

PrivatBank accounts for almost half of the profit of all Ukrainian banks: 34.88 billion UAH of profit and 11.09 billion UAH of taxes. Among state-owned banks, only First Investment Bank is in the negative (-29.43 million UAH). Motor Bank, on the contrary, this year came out of the minus for the first time in a long time. In general, the profit of the group of state banks increased by 4% compared to the same period last year.

The profit of foreign banks dropped by almost a quarter to UAH 16.57 billion. Raiffeisen remains the leader: +10% growth, UAH 4.74 billion of profit and UAH 1.66 billion of tax.

Banks with private capital are also down by a quarter, their profit amounted to UAH 10.06 billion. FUIB remains first out of UAH 3.57 billion - this is -7% to last year. Together with Universal Bank (Monobank) they received 59% of the group's profit.

More than a quarter of the country's private banks closed the first half of 2025 with a loss.
