In 2026, Russian forces significantly intensified their attacks on Ukraine’s pharmaceutical infrastructure. In September alone, the Darnitsa plant in Kyiv was struck three times; it had already been attacked in June. Previously, the “Pharma Start” plant in the capital was shelled three times; the Borshchahivka Chemical-Pharmaceutical Plant, the Biocon logistics complex, the “Optima-Pharm” company, and WHO pharmacy and pharmaceutical warehouses also sustained damage. This was reported by Dengi.ua, citing an infographic from “Slovo i Dilo.”
The attacks affected not only Kyiv and the Kyiv region. Strikes on pharmaceutical industry facilities were recorded in Dnipro, Poltava, Mykolaiv, Odesa, and Sumy. In particular, warehouses belonging to distributors and pharmacy chains were targeted.
The number of strikes on medicine warehouses and pharmacies has increased particularly noticeably since June 2026. So far this year, the number of such attacks has already reached the total for all previous years of the full-scale invasion. The destruction of pharmacy and distributor stockpiles likely creates a risk of drug shortages, including medications that patients need to stay alive.
The highest number of attacks on pharmaceutical facilities, warehouses, and pharmacies has been recorded in the Kyiv region. However, the list provided is not exhaustive: information about some of the affected facilities, their exact locations, the dates of the attacks, and the extent of the damage is either not published or is released with a delay for security reasons.
What Happened to Pharmaceutical Facilities in Kyiv and the Region
In the first months of the full-scale war, Russian troops destroyed the Farmak warehouse in Kalynivka, Kyiv Region. Warehouses belonging to “BaDM,” one of Ukraine’s largest distributors of medicines and medical devices, were also hit, as were facilities belonging to the companies “Ametrin FC” and “Venta, Ltd.” in Gostomel.
In 2023–2024, no targeted strikes on pharmaceutical facilities in the Kyiv region were recorded. However, in 2025, the attacks resumed. In April, “Gledfarm LTD,” a subsidiary of the “Kusum” pharmaceutical group, was destroyed.
In June, July, and August 2025, the Kyiv-based “Pharma Start” plant, owned by Acino Ukraine, sustained significant damage. The company was only able to resume operations in the spring of 2026. In July of that same year, a Russian strike hit the Borshchahivka Chemical-Pharmaceutical Plant: the plant sustained serious damage, and a significant portion of its medicines was destroyed.
In August and October 2025, the “Optima-Pharm” logistics and distribution complex was attacked, resulting in the loss of part of the drug stockpile. In late June 2026, Russian forces struck the “Darnytsa” pharmaceutical plant for the first time, causing serious damage to the facility.
A new series of attacks took place in September. On the night of September 2, during a large-scale air strike, Russian forces completely destroyed the major “Biocon” pharmaceutical logistics complex in the village of Velyka Oleksandrivka in the Boryspil district. That same night, a warehouse belonging to the charity “100% Life” sustained significant damage.
In addition, one of the pharmacies in the “Dobryi Den” chain and a WHO warehouse in the Kyiv region were completely destroyed. The “Optima-Pharm” warehouse was attacked again.
On September 12 and 13, Russian troops struck one of Ukraine’s largest pharmaceutical warehouses - Universal Logistic - for two consecutive days. The facility sustained significant damage.
The “Darnytsa” plant was hit three more times - on September 23, 26, and 28. The damage sustained by the facility is also assessed as substantial.
Attacks on Pharmaceutical Infrastructure in Other Regions
Pharmaceutical facilities were also targeted in other regions of Ukraine. In November 2022, a Russian “Shahed” drone struck a civilian warehouse belonging to the company “BaDM” in Dnipro. A massive fire broke out at the facility, resulting in the warehouse’s destruction.
In December 2025, Russian troops completely destroyed an even larger “BaDM” distribution center in Dnipro. In September 2026, the company’s warehouse in Odesa was struck.
In November 2025, an “Optima-Pharm” warehouse and a pharmacy belonging to the “Med-Service” chain were also attacked in Dnipro. In August 2026, Russian troops struck a WHO warehouse in that city twice.
Another pharmaceutical warehouse was attacked in Mykolaiv during the first year of the full-scale invasion.
In addition, on the morning of October 4, 2026, a Russian drone destroyed a high-tech production facility belonging to the pharmaceutical company “Kusum” in Sumy. One employee was killed in the attack, and several others were injured.
