Ukraine and Moldova are preparing a bilateral agreement to strengthen energy security during the winter, which provides for an increase in electricity imports and the coordination of a joint gas corridor.

This was announced by Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal via his Telegram channel, as reported by Dengi.ua.

How The Countries Will Cooperate in The Fields of Energy and The Environment

A key topic of the talks was navigating the heating season amid common threats to the power grids and the stability of natural gas supplies in both countries.

The parties agreed on the following practical areas of cooperation:

  • gas corridor and electricity: transit routes for natural gas via shared infrastructure were discussed in detail, as well as the procurement of additional volumes of imported electricity;
  • official agreement: the governments are drafting a specialized bilateral document that will legally enshrine mutual obligations and coordination mechanisms in the energy sector;
  • environmental balance: The delegations coordinated steps to address the problematic hydrological and environmental situation in the Dniester River basin.

What Will Change at the Border and How Fuel Supplies Will Be Accelerated

A separate round of consultations focused on optimizing transport and logistics corridors to supply the Ukrainian market with petroleum products.

Key logistics agreements:

  • transit of petroleum products: the parties agreed to expedite the passage of tanker trucks through Moldovan territory and eliminate traffic jams caused by fuel tankers at border checkpoints to ensure the uninterrupted import of fuel into Ukraine;

  • joint customs control: the issue of introducing unified inspection procedures at border crossing points to reduce bureaucratic burdens was raised; special intergovernmental consultations on this topic will be held in the near future.
