About a fifth of the gross domestic product (GDP) of Ukraine is formed at the expense of the agricultural sector, which employs 20% of Ukrainians. About this reports SEEDS, reports [[link_local link_article_id="1691282 "]] Dengi.ua [[/link_local]].
It is noted that this statistic was cited by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Vitaly Koval during the Agro Ukraine Summit - a large-scale international forum recently held in Kiev. This event brought together key participants of agrarian and food markets of the country.
"Today, 17.5% of the gross domestic product of Ukraine rests on the shoulders of agrarians. Every fifth Ukrainian works in the agricultural sector. 60% of foreign currency earnings are in the agrarian sector. Therefore, the faster we develop as an innovative country, as a country of processing - the more success and stronger GDP we will have. We need added value, we cannot develop if we have an average exporter's cost per ton of 291 euros, while in Europe it is 1536 euros. Such potential, such golden people, such experience that we have, do not allow us to be a raw materials appendage," - said Vitaliy Koval.
The Minister emphasized the necessity of transition to production with high added value and development of processing capacities. According to him, only in this case Ukraine will be able to fully realize the potential of the agricultural industry and strengthen the economy through innovation and branding.
