Since the beginning of 2025, Ukraine has imported 1.12 billion cubic meters of natural gas. Compared to the same period of 2024, when only 118 million cubic meters were supplied, the volume has increased almost tenfold. This is evidenced by data from ExPro .

One of the main reasons for such a sharp increase in imports was the need for additional gas volumes for the 2024-2025 heating season. This is due to a reduction in domestic production due to Russian shelling, which caused damage to infrastructure. In February, 512 million cubic meters of gas was imported, the highest since September 2023.

Ukraine has already started accumulating fuel reserves for winter.

The largest volumes of gas came from Hungary - 669 million cubic meters, which is almost 60% of the total volume. Imports from Slovakia amounted to 261 million cubic meters (23%), and from Poland - 190 million cubic meters (17%).

According to ExPro, Naftogaz Group has imported the vast majority of natural gas since the beginning of the year - about 900 million cubic meters, accounting for 80% of the total volume.

In addition, some private companies also imported gas, which was subsequently sold at auctions by Ukrtransgas JSC at the Ukrainian Energy Exchange.

It should be added that Naftogas Of Ukraine was the only gas importer during April and early May.
