Ukraine's international reserves have grown: what contributed to it

As of May 1, 2025, Ukraine's international reserves amounted to 46,683.1 million dollars. In April, they increased by 10.2 percent. This was reported by press service of the regulator.

"Such dynamics is due, on the one hand, to significant volumes of receipts from international partners, and on the other hand - the smallest since April 2024 volumes of net sale of currency by the National Bank in the foreign exchange market," - stated in the message.

In general, the dynamics of reserves was determined by a number of factors, in particular, receipts in favor of the government and payments for servicing and repayment of public debt.

The government's foreign currency accounts with the National Bank received $6,347.6 million. 

In addition, Ukraine received $992.0 million. In addition, Ukraine received USD 992.0 million under the agreement between Ukraine and the UK under the ERA. These funds were not attributed to Ukraine's international reserves due to their limited (earmarked) purpose of use.

USD 517.9 million was paid for servicing and repayment of government debt in foreign currency. In addition, Ukraine paid USD 82.1 million to the International Monetary Fund.

In April compared to March 2025, the net sale of foreign currency by the National Bank decreased by 17.1%. According to balance sheet data, the NBU sold on the foreign exchange market 2,208.7 million dollars. According to the balance sheet data, the NBU sold USD 2,208.7 million in the foreign exchange market and bought back USD 17.5 million in reserves. USD.

In April, due to revaluation, the value of financial instruments increased by $742.5 million.

"The current volume of international reserves provides financing for 5.6 months of future imports," the NBU added.
