Steel producers: Ukraine drops to 22nd place among 71 countries

In January-May 2025, the world steel production is 783.96 million tons, which is 1.34% lower than in January-May 2024 (794.58 million tons). Ukraine has moved from 21 to 22 position among 71 producing countries. This is reported by "Ukrmetallurgprom" with reference to the data of Worldsteel, write Dengi.ua .

The leader here is the People's Republic of China, which smelted 432.63 million tons, which is 1.70% below the January-May 2024 figure (439.09 million tons). The PRC's share in global steel production is 55.1%.

Ukraine (3.06 million tons or 97.51% against January-May 2024) moved from 21st to 22nd position among 71 steel-producing countries.

In January-May 2025, metallurgical enterprises of the world produced 583.28 million tons of pig iron, of which 529.78 million tons by blast furnace method and 53.50 million tons by direct renewal method. This is 0.25% below the January-May 2024 figure (584.77 million tons).

The first place is again occupied by the People's Republic of China, whose metallurgists smelted 362.74 million tons of pig iron in January-May 2025, down 0.10% from January-May 2024 (363.10 million tons). The share of Chinese pig iron in the world production leaves 62.2%.

At the same time, Ukraine (3.01 million tons or 105.94% compared to January-May 2024) remained in 14th position among 40 iron-producing countries.
