Leading the Field: Ukrainian Agribusinesses Boost Profits Amid Economic Imbalance

A stark disparity has emerged between the surge in corporate financial results and the actual growth in real value added within the sector.

According to 2025 year-end results, financial indicators for the Ukrainian agricultural sector (NACE Code 01) showed significant nominal growth. However, a comparison with macroeconomic statistics reveals a notable imbalance between rising corporate profits and the real gross value added (GVA) generated by the industry. This was reported by Dengi.ua , citing an analysis of data from the KSE Agrocenter.

The report notes that the total pre-tax profit of over 35,000 agricultural enterprises reached UAH 223 billion—an increase of UAH 38.5 billion (21%) over the previous year. Notably, the market’s largest players—ten companies within the MHP, Kernel, and Goodvalley agricultural holdings—saw their profits surge by 40%, reaching UAH 16 billion. The superior growth rates of these industry leaders likely reflect their enhanced ability to navigate logistical constraints and manage costs more effectively due to their scale of operations.

In tandem with rising profits, the sector saw record-high revenues from direct taxes, including minimum tax liabilities, income tax, and unified and land taxes. In 2025, agribusinesses contributed UAH 13.3 billion to the state budget, a 34.6% increase over the previous year. Consequently, the direct tax burden on the sector is estimated at approximately 6%.

While the nominal gross value added (GVA) of the agricultural sector rose by 21% in current prices—aligning with the pre-tax profit dynamics—the picture changes when adjusted for inflation. When measured in constant 2021 prices, the GVA actually contracted by 6.2% compared to the previous year. This discrepancy suggests that the sector's positive financial performance in 2025 was driven primarily by rising prices rather than a real expansion in production volumes.
