Germany has granted asylum to a significant number of refugees from Ukraine. Upon arrival in the country, many of them are eager to adapt and find work. In 2025, the average salary in Germany reaches about €4207 per month, which Ukrainians consider to be a decent figure. At the same time, many Ukrainian citizens are forced to work at the minimum wage.

About it writes "UNIAN".

It is noted that, nevertheless, some applicants are forced to take low-skilled positions - mainly due to lack of knowledge of the German language or lack of confirmed education. In addition, many women work part-time to combine labor with childcare. This raises the burning question: what is the minimum wage in Germany?

It is reported that according to the German Federal Statistical Office (Statistisches Bundesamt), the minimum wage is regularly revised. As of January 1, 2025, the set minimum is €12.82 per hour. With a standard 40-hour working week, this is equivalent to a salary of between €2051 and €2222 per month before tax deductions.

The publication notes that this rate applies in all sectors, regions and also applies to part-time workers. The amount can be revised upwards during the year. At the same time, the exact amount after tax deductions is not easy to determine - it depends on the tax class, insurance and region of residence. However, the average "net" remains about €1550 per month.

It is also reported that there are exceptions, in which the employer can pay below the established minimum. This applies to:

  • apprentices and trainees;
  • volunteers;
  • minors without vocational training;
  • self-employed and freelancers;
  • the long-term unemployed (more than 12 months), during the first six months of their new job.

In all other cases, employers are required to comply with the minimum wage. Violation of this rule carries serious sanctions. This requirement also applies to foreign workers, including Ukrainians - they must also be paid at least €12.82 per hour.

At the same time, workers in unskilled professions such as:

  • employees of the agricultural sector,
  • logistics, construction industry,
  • cleaners, electricians.

In addition, the minimum wage is often received by:

  • cashiers,
  • warehouse workers,
  • dishwashers,
  • bakers,
  • caregivers and elderly care assistants.
