There is no mass influx of migrant workers into Ukraine, despite rumors circulating on social media. The real number of foreign workers is up to 10,000, which is less than before the full-scale invasion. This was stated in an interview with Novyny.LIVE by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak, according to Dengi.ua.

How Many Migrant Workers There Really Are in Ukraine

According to the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax, and Customs Policy, Yaroslav Zheleznyak, the real number of labor migrants in Ukraine remains small.

"The statistics are very simple. We currently have fewer migrants in general than even before the full-scale invasion. We are talking about a maximum of up to 10,000 people of different nationalities," the MP said.

This means the current figures are lower than they were before the full-scale invasion by Russia.

Why Ukraine Suffers from a Shortage of Personnel, Not Migrants

The problem for Ukraine today is not an excess of foreign workers, but rather a shortage of them.

"For us, it is more of a challenge that so few of them are coming rather than a problem," the MP noted.

Zheleznyak criticized statements spread in the information space about alleged millions of foreigners who might come to Ukraine.

"Millions of Bangladeshis or Indians live only in the minds of certain politicians on social media," the MP said.

He also pointed out that even those foreigners who do come to Ukraine often move to European Union countries over time.

How Ukraine Tries to Attract Foreign Specialists

One of the tools for attracting foreign specialists has been e-residency. This system allows them to:

  • Work for the Ukrainian market remotely;
  • Pay taxes in Ukraine.

"We implemented this to attract foreigners. This is an electronic opportunity to work. Frankly speaking, even such an option has not been very interesting to Bangladeshis so far," Zheleznyak said.

The MP added that currently, the topic of a massive influx of migrant workers remains far from reality, and Ukraine has to solve much more urgent problems in the labor market.
