In 2024, Ukraine lost over 10 GW due to 13 large-scale Russian attacks on the country's power system. Only 104 MW were built, but electricity imports grew tenfold compared to 2023.
According to the Center for Economic Strategy, the total net electricity import in 2024 exceeded 4 TWh, which is ten times higher than in 2023. Commercial imports reached 4.4 TWh ($670 million), while commercial exports were 12.7 times smaller—1,348 GWh ($81 million).
The Distributed Generation Development Strategy until 2035 was approved in 2024, and according to Energy Minister Halushchenko, hundreds of megawatts of new capacities were launched. However, this only compensates for a small portion of the damaged energy facilities.
According to official information from Ukrenergo, published by Deputy Chairman of the Finance Committee MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak, only 104 MW of the promised gigawatt of distributed generation was built in 2024.
