Australia has announced $100 million in additional military aid for Ukraine. The funds will be used to purchase critical defense equipment amid ongoing Russian aggression. This was reported by Dengi.ua , citing a press release from the Australian Department of Defense.
Earlier, in December of last year, Canberra had already provided $50 million to fund Ukraine’s Priority Requirements List (PURL). Over the next 12 months, Australia will transfer two additional tranches of $50 million each.
This support is being provided in coordination with NATO and includes the delivery of necessary military equipment to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities. Specifically, this includes air defense systems and ammunition.
With this new aid package, the total amount of Australian support for Ukraine will exceed $1.8 billion. Of this amount, more than $1.6 billion consists of military aid provided since the start of the full-scale conflict.
Australia also continues to participate in the Coalition of the Willing, which brings together more than 35 countries. The coalition countries are coordinating efforts to strengthen support for Ukraine in order to achieve a just and sustainable peace on Ukraine’s terms.
In addition, Australian Defense Force personnel continue to train Ukrainian military personnel as part of Operation Kudu. Training is currently taking place in Poland as part of the multinational “Legio” mission, led by Norway.
Australian authorities emphasize that their position on supporting Ukraine and its right to defend itself against Russian aggression remains unchanged.
“What is happening in Ukraine matters to the entire Indo-Pacific region, which is why it is so important for Australia to stay the course and continue supporting Ukraine until it achieves peace on its own terms,” said Australian Prime Minister Richard Marles.
