Polish oil and gas group Orlen is considering acquiring a stake in the state-owned company Ukrnafta, which operates as part of the Naftogaz Group. Negotiations between the parties have already commenced, and the potential agreement could become one of the largest joint energy projects between Ukraine and Poland in recent years. This was reported by bankier.pl with reference to a statement by Orlen President Ireneusz Fafara, Dengi.ua .
According to the publication, the company confirmed that discussions regarding cooperation with the Ukrainian side are already underway, though the final parameters of a possible deal have not yet been finalized.
"We have started talking about the possibility of our participation in Ukrnafta. We are in the process as one of the partners. Whether and what this commitment will be is a matter of negotiations with the Ukrainian side," Ireneusz Fafara said.
According to him, the Ukrainian market remains strategically important for Orlen. A crucial role in this strategy is played by the group's oil refinery in Mažeikiai, Lithuania, which already supplies a significant portion of its petroleum products to Ukraine.
The head of Orlen noted that the company links its expanded cooperation directly to the future recovery of the Ukrainian economy.
"We believe that the war will end and that Ukraine will be the winner. We would like to participate in this market more than we do now. We are one of the main partners supplying fuel to Ukraine, and we would like to strengthen this position," Fafara emphasized.
Orlen is the largest oil refining company in Poland and one of the leading energy players in Central Europe. The group operates an extensive network of filling stations across Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, and Hungary, while also developing green hydrogen initiatives and electric vehicle infrastructure.
