According to the Deputy Minister of Development of Communities and Territories Serhiy Derkach, there is a serious shortage of personnel in the freight transportation market in Ukraine. Carriers lack up to 40,000 drivers of the CE category. This is reported by Dengi.ua with reference to Ukrinform .

According to him, currently about 130 thousand trucks are involved in large freight transportation, but about 30% of them are idle because of the lack of drivers.

"That is, the deficit is about 30-40 thousand drivers of CE category. This is a huge figure and not an easy story. A few months ago we were in one of the big companies. They have 30 big new cars on their site. And the owners say that there is no one to drive them: there are contracts, but no drivers", - said Derkach.

He emphasized that this issue will not be solved quickly, so the Ministry of Development initiates projects to train specialists for the market.

In particular, the Ministry is focusing on training women drivers, retraining veterans, and plans to attract young people to the profession. These categories, according to the official, have an advantage - they have no problems with reservations.

Derkach noted that businesses have solved the issue of booking workers. Companies, especially in international transportation, can book up to 50% of workers.

"All transportation companies, if they work, especially in the field of international transportation, pay the appropriate wages, they can all book 50% of workers. But there is a nuance: there are a lot of people in the companies who are not directly involved in driving. Therefore, the business has become a challenge: how to retain staff and properly reassign them in order to fit into these 50% and provide themselves with workers of the most in-demand professions, "- added the Deputy Minister.
